Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

This (MCSE) certification proves your expertise in designing and implementing the infrastructure for business solutions based on the Microsoft Windows 2000 platform and Microsoft Windows Server System.

The MCSE certification covers NT4, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 operating systems and also has several specializations as detailed below.


MCSE : 2003

  • Exam 70-290
  • Exam 70-291
  • Exam 70-293
  • Exam 70-294
  • Exam 70-210 or 70-270
  • Exam 70-297 or 70-298
  • Exam 70-089 or 70-227 or 70-228 or 70-229 or 70-232 or 70-235 or 70-262 or 70-281 or 70-282 or 70-284 or 70-285 or 70-297 or 70-298 or 70-299 or 70-301 or 70-350 or 70-431 or CompTIA Security+ or Unisys UN0-101

Exceptions :

  1. Passing exam 70-240, means a pass for exams 70-210.
  2. Exams 70-297 and 70-298 may each count one time as either one core design exam or one elective exam but not both. Candidates may also take Exams 70-219, 70-220, 70-221, or 70-226 to satisfy the Core Design exam requirement.
  3. Exams 70-089, 70-227, 70-228, 70-284, and 70-350 may each count toward both the MCSA and MCSE elective exam requirements.
  4. CompTIA Security+ certification satisfies both the MCSE elective requirement and an MCSE: Security specialization requirement.
Note : Upgrade exams for MCSE's on 2000 are 70-292 and 70-296



MCSE : 2003 (Messaging Specialization)

Exceptions :

  1. Passing exam 70-240, means a pass for exams 70-210.
  2. Candidates who hold MCSA or MCSE on Windows 2000 credentials may take Exam 70-292 in place of Exams 70-290 and 70-291. In addition, candidates who hold an MCSE on Windows 2000 credential may take Exam 70-296 in place of Exams 70-293 and 70-294.
  3. Candidates may also take Exam 70-219, Exam 70-220, Exam 70-221, or Exam 70-226 to satisfy the Core Design exam requirement. 
Note : Upgrade exams for MCSE's on 2000 are 70-292 and 70-296



MCSE : 2003 (Security Specialization)

Exceptions :

  2. Candidates who hold MCSA or MCSE on Windows 2000 credentials may take Exam 70-292 in place of Exams 70-290 and 70-291. In addition, candidates who hold an MCSE on Windows 2000 credential may take Exam 70-296 in place of Exams 70-293 and 70-294.

Exceptions :

  1. Passing exam 70-240, means a pass for exams 70-210, 70-215, 70-216 and 70-217.
  2. Exams 70-219, 70-220, 70-221, 70-226, 70-297 and 70-298 may each count one time toward one core design exam or one elective exam. These exams may not count toward both a core design exam and an elective exam.
  3. Exams 70-214, 70-227, 70-299, and 70-350 satisfy both the MCSE elective requirement as well as MCSE: Security specialization requirements.
  4. CompTIA Security+ certification satisfies both the MCSE elective requirement and an MCSE: Security specialization requirement.
