Microsoft currently have 17 Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certifications. More will become available as new technologies are introduced. The 17 MCTS certifications are as follows:

Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications (Developers holding the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications (MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications) certification have demonstrated breadth and depth of skills and knowledge of Web application technology and data access in Web applications.)

Exam Requirements : 70-536 & 70-528

Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications (Developers who hold the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications (MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications) certification have demonstrated breadth and depth of skills and knowledge of Windows Forms technology, in addition to expertise in data access in Microsoft Windows applications.)

Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Distributed Applications (Developers holding the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist: .NET Framework 2.0 Distributed Applications (MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Distributed Applications) certification have demonstrated breadth and depth of skills and knowledge of Web services, .NET Framework remoting, Enterprise Services, and Message Queuing technology.)

They have thorough knowledge of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence Development tool suite. This includes knowledge of database schemas, debugging, monitoring, and troubleshooting Business Intelligence solutions, and working with the Microsoft .NET Framework. They can write database queries, use SSAS data mining algorithms, and create and deploy SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports. Additionally, they author and deploy SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages. Technology Specialists typically pursue careers as database administrators, database developers, or business intelligence developers. The qualified candidate for this exam typically has a general understanding of Office SharePoint Server 2007 and how to administer Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or 2005, as well as knowledge about security and Microsoft .NET 2.0 as they relate to SharePoint Server 2007. The candidate also possesses a general understanding of configuring these technologies: Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server, Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Administration, Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), network load-balancing for applications, and back-up restoration of data.)

This certification verifies the abilities of a corporate developer or consultant to build Web portals and integrate business applications using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, including building business intelligence solutions, targeting content based on membership, and customizing functionality. A successful candidate will have prior experience working with XML documents and XML Web services, as well as the Microsoft .NET Framework and Windows SharePoint Services development.)

Technology Specialist: Windows Mobile 5.0, Implementing and Managing (A Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist in Windows Mobile 5.0, Implementing and Managing (MCTS: Windows Mobile 5.0, Implementing and Managing) possesses a deep and broad understanding of designing, implementing, and managing mobile infrastructures, mobile devices, and mobile applications in a business environment. The qualified candidate for this certification typically has experience with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Exchange Server 2007 and knowledge of concepts such as Outlook Web Access (OWA), Outlook Mobile Access (OMA), and Exchange ActiveSync (EAS). The candidate also has one to two years of experience working with Active Directory directory services, at least one year of experience working with mobile devices, and experience using or managing Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack.
