Dotnetnuke Core Links Module (TUTORIAL)

The image below shows what a typical links module can look like. You can create a list of links horizontally or vertically.

To add the module it is just a matter of selecting the Links module from the list of modules, choosing where on the website you wish to add it (in this case Contentpane and at the bottom of any other modules that currently exist in this pane) and set who has the right permissions to view the module :

Once you have the module on the page, hovering your mouse over the menu will pop up the options menu as shown below. Clicking on the "Settings" option allows us to set many different options for this particular module :

The Link Settings shown below allow us to set options such as whether the links will be in a traditional list or in a dropdown list, whether the links should be displayed vertically or horizontally, whether to display an extra information link, and whether to wrap the link text. You can also choose a logo for the link as shown below :

Now that the settings have been adjusted, you can return to the pop up menu and select the option to "Add Link" :

Provide a title for the link. Choose the link type, which in this case is a simple URL web address link such as www.somedomain.com for example. Add the intended URL into the location field. You can choose to track the number of times your link has been clicked, and also for more detailed information record the user, date and time stamp for each click. A very useful option here is to request that the link is opened in a new browser. That way your website remains on the user's desktop screen and a new window displays the link destination web address. Enter a Description if you wish for the link. Once you have several links, you can arrange the order in which they appear, by giving each link a number. Tip - I usually start of with a View Order number of 101. That way I can insert links above or below this first link. (The lower the number the first in order they are to be displayed on your web page from the top of the page down)
