Dotnetnuke Core Text/HTML Module (TUTORIAL)

To add the module it is just a matter of selecting the Text/HTML module from the list of modules, choosing where on the website you wish to add it (in this case Contentpane and at the bottom of any other modules that currently exist in this pane) and set who has the right permissions to view the module :

Once you have the module on the page, hovering your mouse over the menu will pop up the options menu as shown below. Clicking on the "Settings" option allows us to set many different options for this particular module :

The Text/HTML Settings shown below allow us to set options such as a title, alignment , colour and border settings, whether to display the surrounding container, and whether to allow end users to print, the module container used to display the text module, and other settings as shown below :

Now that the settings have been adjusted, you can return to the pop up menu and select the option to "Edit Text" :

To create a text module, you will use the blank canvas as shown below :

You can even adjust the html code behind the text, by clicking on the "Source" button as shown below :

A popular choice for editing text is the insertion of bulleted lists...

You can also insert and edit a table...

The table looks something like what is shown below, but the outline can also be hidden :

Either on its own, or within the table you can choose to insert and image...

You can then always come back and edit the table for adding/removing more columns and rows etc...

For example, the final hidden table for displaying images and some text is shown below :

Note that most web pages make use of a text/HTML module (including this one) for displaying text and images and for formatting the layout of how you wish your text and images to look.

TIP : If you have recenly updated your windows operating system, and you are not running a version of Dotnetnuke greater than 4.3.7, then you may have noticed that instead of editing your text modules as usual, you get the following annoying error... "Error: Edit Entry is currently unavailable." The solution is very simple. In the controls folder within your dotnetnuke installation is a file called "texteditor.ascx". If you edit this file using a text editor and change the curly quotes to straight quotes, everything will work as it should.

ie. <td id=celTextEditor Runat=Server><asp:panel id="pnlBasicTextBox" Visible="False" Runat="server">

becomes :

<td id="celTextEditor" Runat="Server"><asp:panel id="pnlBasicTextBox" Visible="False" Runat="server">

This I personally noticed on a clients website running Dotnetnuke version 4.3.6.
