Dotnetnuke Core UsersOnline Module (TUTORIAL)
To add the module it is just a matter of selecting the UsersOnline module from the list of modules, choosing where on the website you wish to add it (in this case Contentpane and at the bottom of any other modules that currently exist in this pane) and set who has the right permissions to view the module :
Once you have the module on the page, hovering your mouse over the menu will pop up the options menu as shown below. Clicking on the "Settings" option allows us to set many different options for this particular module :
The Users Online module Settings shown below allow us to set options such as a title, whether to display the surrounding container, and whether to allow end users to print, and which of the 3 optional settings to display... "Show Membership:", "Show People Online:", and "Show Users Online:" as shown below :
Important Settings :
Make sure that under the Host menu -> Scheduler, the job called "PurgeUsersOnline", is Enabled. It is shown at the top of the list of jobs in the image below :
Also make sure that the option to "Disable Users Online" is not ticked, if you wish to allow this module to work, as shown in the image below :
Also, set the Scheduler Mode to "Timer Method" as shown in the image below :
Try setting the "Users Online Time (Minutes):" to 10. Now this setting can vary since it depends on how much traffic you have coming to your website. If you have less traffic, then it may be better to set this longer, as it allows you to capture the total number of visitors visiting your website within that time. If you set this too short, then users may visit your website and exit without you knowing that they have been at all (for example, if you set it at 1 or 2 minutes) .
Also make sure that your Site's Admin Settings Portal timezone is set to the same time as your server.
Now you can click on the "Update" link as shown below to save all those important changes.
